Shampoos with salicylic acid (use to make aspirin) are used to treat are used effectively to treat control seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. There are several over-the-counter products as well as a number of perscription shampoos that contain salicylic acid.

Anti- dandruff shampoos contain salicyclic acid to cause the cells of the epidermis to shed more easily.It opens clogged pores and allow for new cell growth. Due to its effect on skin cells and its chemical properties, it removes dandruff effectively.
