Complex carbohydrates are found in whole grains and rice, many fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, and potatoes. They are healthier than simple (refined) carbohydrates such as sugar, corn syrup, and white flour. Nutritionists advise having at least 50% of calories from complex carbohydrates. They provide long-lasting energy (no sugar high!) and can be prepared in many tasty meals.
