Platypuses are not permitted to be kept as pets in Australia or any other country. If you want a funky exotic pet, maybe try raising some Triops...they are easy to keep.
It is illegal to have a pet platypus. If you were to get one you should make sure that it is a female. The males are have poisonous barbs on their hind legs.
