Cameras date back to 1021. The Iraqi scientist Ibn al-Haytham, using a lens to project an image of the scene upside-down onto a viewing surface.

It depends on what you consider the camera. The camera obsurca, which couldn't permanently fix images was used by Dutch painters in the 1600s. Plate cameras that created permanent images was invented in the 1800s. Kodak invented the brownie camera, the first everyday camera, in the early 20th century
