The intake is going to have a plastic hose going into the motor where as the exhaust is going to be coming out from the bottom of the motor and it is going to be metal.
On most newer engine the intake will generally be located on the top of the engine. The intake itself should be either made of plastic or sometime aluminum. Whereas the exhaust will be located down on either side of the engine. The exhaust manifold will always be metal.
