The sex of the fetus could be correctly determined at 5 or 6 weeks, though literatures state that it could even be determined in a couple of weeks of conception. The exact time to know the exact sex is 6 weeks of conception.

You can usually tell after 16 weeks as long as the baby is not covering itself up. The doctors usually recommend finding out the sex around 20 weeks because the babies organs are almost completely formed. That way then can check the baby's progress as well as the sex of your child.

Using an ultrasound, a doctor or sonographer can tell the sex of the baby around 16-18 weeks, assuming the fetus is behaving and showing off the goods. A doctor can also tell by performing an amnioscintesis, which may be done a bit earlier in the process, at the beginning of the second trimester.

The sex of the fetus can be known by the middle of third month, but usually the docter won't tell you the sex as it is banned these days. If you have children already then may be they will tell you.
