The maximum penalty for a class c misdemeanor ranges from jail time to a fine. The maximum jail time is 30 days, and the maximum fine is $500. A class C misdemeanor is rather minor, so the penalty reflects the nature of the crime, and is not usually too expensive or excessive.

All of those are possibilities. Commonly a penalty for a class C (or class 3) misdemeanor include probation, community service, or a fine. In fact, the maximum penalty for the offense is either 30 days in jail (not in a prison, as those are for felons) or else a $500 fine.
