An element is a pure substance composed of just one type of atom. This atom is distinguished from other atoms by the number of protons in its nucleus. A compound is a pure substance with a composition of two or more different elements.

Elements are some single things i.e iron, copper, gold, etc. Compounds are made up of two or more elements .
