The best material to use, when building a raised flower bed is cement rock or brick. Both of these materials are weather resistant, won't rot when water is applied and are both durable and easy to maintain. Wood railroad ties are also an option, however, wne looking at durability and performance, brick and block are a better material.

You can use wood for this and it should last a long time if you use a properly treated wood. Use AC2 treated wood and than protect with a weather resistant stain and it should easily last ten years or more.

The longest lasting material would be some type of composite material. If it is too expensive go with pressure treated outdoor lumber.

There are many types of woods and metals you can use, even pre-built plastic ones. I have found the most long lasting are old wood railroad ties that have been highly chemically treated. They look a little rustic but are nice enough and even animals cannot destroy them. They can be a little pricey, try looking at construction yards.
