Since most draft ponys do have a lower metabolism than regular horses, the diet could consist mostly of grass and hay with no need for supplemental grain.

Draft ponies have slow metabolisms. If it is not worked strenuously, the pony can do well on good grass/hay. A mature animal needs about 2% of its body weight, in dry food each day. If you feed grain, it will need a maximum of 0.3% of its body weight.

Feed pretty much the same thing you would feed any other pony. Give your pony hay in the morning and night to munch on and provide plenty of food and water. Give him grain based on weight and how much he works and split it in two feedings.

The best draft pony diet consists of grain and hay. This diet is suitable for them since they have low metabolisms.Clean water is also essential. Is the pony going to be used for work?If this is so,then it is essentially that she has plenty of grain in her diet.If she dosen't work much, she may not need as much grain.

There isn't any special dietary needs that need to be met in a draft pony that differ from any other horse or pony. Pleanty of roughage, clean water and a diet that is balanced in all essential proteins, elements and a correct calcium/phospherous ratio are all that is needed.

It depends on how he's being used. If he's used for work, you want to make sure he has grain in his diet. But if he's only used for light riding or not worked at all, you do not have to feed him grain. Grain gives all horses more energy; they don't need it if they are not working horses.

Good grass hay, and a low carbohydrate feed IF your pony needs it. The more low starch and sugars usually better. Lots of first cutting grass hay will work.
