Lots of people have waxed lyrical about "Men are from mars and women are from venus", however the themes that are present in this book are generally arrived at much more quickly if one was to read Schopenhauer, specifically "The World as Will and Representation" that states that love is not an accident

John Gray's "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" is considered to be the ultimate in male/female relationship books. The concepts he lays out in this and other books in the series provide the foundation for most other books on the topic. A close contender, though, is Deborah Tannen's "You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation."
