God made a covenant with Abraham. Isaac was Abraham's son and Jacob was Isaac's son. Belief in God was passed down in this lineage. Jacob's son Joseph ended up in Egypt. A famine brought the rest of the Hebrews there. This was before the covenant with Moses but the Hebrews in Egypt knew about God and His promises to Abraham.
