Brown spotting can be a normal part of menopause. It is a sign that your body is adjusting to the hormone changes during this time. Your periods usually do not stop all of a sudden but gradually are less and less, so that sometimes it is just spotting. If it occurs after many months of no flow see your doctor.

Brown spotting can be caused by dried menstrual blood. It may also be a vaginal discharge in conjunction with a yeast infection.
