Any sort of geometrical pattern using more than one color usually works for the retro theme. If you already have other shapes around it, maybe think about one bold, but lonely color. But whatever you do, stay away from soft fabric. Only the plastics or rougher-looking materials work for a retro theme.

Safest bet when doing a retro theme - the geometrical, colorful designs from the sixties and seventies. If it makes you think of hippies, flower power, Woodstock and Wolksvagen minivans - it's just what you need.

Get a shower curtain that goes with your retro theme by having one with a retro black and white pattern on it. One with abstract black and white shapes on it would go perfectly, and I have seen them before, so they are not too rare. Otherwise, get one in a solid retro color like teal, tangerine, or mustard yellow.

It depends what era you mean when you say 'retro'. For 50s retro, try cherry red, black and cream. For 60s retro, try bold cartoonish floral prints. For 70s retro, try mustard, orange, brown and avocado. For 80s retro, try fun bright neons. Research the era you're trying to emulate and identify the recurring key colours and patterns.
