A fun way to get around the monotony of hand-cranked ice cream makers is to use one of the ball models. In this simple maker you place ice and rock salt into one side and ice cream mix in the other. Once the ball is sealed, you play with it. Shake it for 20 minutes and you get ice cream.

A kids ice cream maker for should be automated and designed for maximum electrical safety. The input for ingredients needs safety features so hands and fingers remain safely away from moving parts. A durable see-through plastic design would allow one to watch the ice cream being made.

Right here on they sell a good one called the Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker. It is a ball that you add the ingredients and shake it up to make the ice cream; no crank.
