Anglo-Saxon or Old English was spoken by people living in England. It is related to German but it also had borrowings from Norse languages via the invading Vikings. Old English changed drastically when the French invaded England in 1066. Today's English has Germanic elements from Anglo-Saxon and French/Latin from French.
