If you are focusing on writing stories, it's good to start with the idea of a story having a beginning, middle and end. Teach about rising action, climax, and falling action. For young students, you may also want to teach proper paragraphing, especially around dialogue.

One of the most important things to teach at this level is how to write in one's own voice. Other important lessons should be on engaging the reader from the beginning, staying on topic, and paining pictures with words.
