You'll need to work on controlling your pacing, making sure you know how fast you're moving, but also that you can continually maintain that pace with cruise style running. Also, speed train for short distances so that you'll have a kick at the end.

Start running several months before the marathon. Start running a distance you are comfortable with, no matter how short, until your body gets used to running. Work you way up to the full distance. Always remember to hydrate and not push too hard, if you're running on an injury, you won't finish.

If you've never run a marathon before you would want to do some endurance and strength training and be able to run around fifty to sixty miles a week before you attepted this race. Stretching daily wouldn't hurt either.
