First of all, if you are not living in Nashville, you better relocate there. Meet people who are already in the business and try to form a network so that your name becomes familiar with everyone. It might help you in getting gigs and contracts.

My songwriting teacher worked in Nashville and his advice was this: "You have to be very, very good and very, very lucky. Since you can't control luck, make sure you are very, very good. Other than that, head to Nashville. You can't succeed there unless you are there."

Check the country music billboard charts and start downloading the top 2-3 songs and have a listen. You can go from there.
