Rome was an empire. China was in the age of the Han Dynasty. Both were advanced civilizations with roads, civil government, big armies, and taxes. (Kind of like today.) Iron was the main metal. In Central America the Mayans a culture with pyramids and a calendar. North America had primitive agriculture and some long distance trade.

The situation at 10BC is very different from now. In that time there was empires that rule the world. The famous rule was done by Roman empire. Augustus Caesar was the emperor in that time. That time was very superstitious. Some villages count a day from 6 to 6 in evening and others the same in day.

10 BC was actually a few years before Jesus was born. The days were very much like the days of Christ.
