Try cooking vegetables, peas, carrots, green beans, celery, and a small amount of onion in unsalted beef broth along with enough barley to thicken it up; season with a small amount of garlic powder, something dogs usually love, and garlic seems to aid in flea prevention. (This is an old wife's tale, but it does seem to work. )

For a low protein stew for dogs I suggest a combination of Chicken breast cut up into small pieces, fresh carrots, peas and rice as a binder. Cool all ingredients off before serving to your dog.

Use meat high in fat, low in phosphorus. Include a mix of grains, vegetables, eggs, and organ meats. For flavor and texture, you can use butter, whipping cream, or yogurt.
