Generally dentists prescribe a painkiller which is akin to taking about 8 Tylenol. I have known people to actually be prescribed Tylenol, simply in a hugely strong dosage. This is good to know because now, if you run out of your medication and can't get to the pharmacy, you can simply take a few of the generic sort.

Generally over the counter pain killers like aspirin, tylenol, advil, aleve, excedrin and ibuprofen are sufficient to relieve post root canal pain. If pain and sensitivity are more, than injections are needed which happen in very rare cases.

it depends on your allergies and your body type. i had taken codeine for my pain management while my husband was given percocet.

Typically after any oral surgery, they prescribe vikoden. If vikoden cannot be taken, then they may replace it with something such as perkeset.

The medicine depends on the extent of pain. For mild pain,OTC tylenol 500mg or ibuprofen 200 mg is given. If it is severe, prescription of more strength of the same drugs can be given.
