Chicago housing is kind of pricey so if you want to be able to afford a place in a decent neighborhood, you should set aside at least $1000 per month for rent or for a hotel. You may be able to find more affordable temporary housing though. Some hotels offer specials.

Housing in Chicago is, in terms of other parts of the U. S. , pricey. Depending on your needs, the price could vary a great deal. Do your research first.
