Look at the size of the hard drive for storage, the amount of RAM it has, the processor speed, and if it has an optical drive, will it burn cds and dvds. Also read reviews by people who own it already.

you need to look at Random Access Memory (RAM). anything about 1 GB should be good. 4 gb is for power users who run a lot of processes like gaming. If you game, you should look at the graphics card that comes with the computer. look at hard disk space. 250 gb is usual, and decent for most users.

It depends on your use case. Might it be equipped with Mac OS? Test the keyboard as you're going to use it. If it's going to be a laptop make sure batteries last longer than 3 hours. Go for a good screen. Prefer fast hard disks over fast CPU.

find something that has the right CPU, RAM, type of screen that you'd prefer and all the storage that you need for the computer. this may also require the right video card, and also for a good price, something under than 1000 dollars is enough for the average home use.

Look for a computer with at least 2gb of ram more if it has Vista. Hard drive capacity should be a few hundred GB. Cpu speed should be around 3gb but the higher the better. Make sure it comes with a good dvd combo drive.

First, a good price. Most machines are powerful "enough" to handle music, movies, websites, and typing. If you want more power for games and video editing, then you will need to pay more. More files means a bigger hard drive and for faster processing you'll need RAM and processor.
