What should I know if an MRI showed that I had mild Cerebral atrophy?

Mild cerebral atrophy means the size of the brain is smaller than the expected size for that age. Normally the size of the brain decreases due to aging, hence this symptom is not a serious condition if it is mild, except that the patient might experience mild memory loss problems.

Cerebral atrophy is found in the majority of people as they age. It usually progresses with severity as a person gets older. What is more important than the presence of atrophy is whether the degree you have is appropriate for your age.

Cerebral atrophy means loss of cells (neurons) in brain tissue. It is described as shrinking of brain or a part of brain and loosing control over function of that part.

Damage or loss of cells in an area of brain is called cerebral atrophy. The symptoms include dementia, seizures, difficulty in speech, difficulty in undertstanding languages, convulsions and disorientation.
