It is important to realize that Benadryl is an over-the-counter medication designed for human consumption. Therefore, the dosage correlates to human, not canine, weight. Only give Benadryl to your pet if your vet has instructed you to do so. He'll advise of the dosage.

Benadryl is generally safe for dogs, but should only be administered on the advice of a vet. It may interact with some pre-existing medical conditions, such as thyroid or prostate problems, so be sure the vet knows your dog's full medical history. Never exceed the recommended dose.

Benadryl is not made for dogs. English bulldogs tend to have breathing problems anyway. If it gets out of hand, bring him to a vet. Don't give him people-medicine.

The rate for dogs is 1 milligram per 1 pound of body weight. Each Benadryl pill is 25 milligrams. So, you give one pill per 25 pounds of body weight. It will make your dog sleepy.
