This is a mildly broad question. What you need to understand is that there are many different species of plants, and each species reacts differently to chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides. I would suggest that you identify the exact species of plant you are dealing with, purchase a good botanist book.

They are best grown in tropical or sub-tropical regions. They should be grown in soil that drains well. Watering should be done frequently at first and then move to once every 7 to 10 day. Mulching is not recommended. Trees will require protection from the cold. This can be accomplished by planting on the south side of a house.
