Tendonitis is inflammation of the tendon. You did something that hurt your tendon (probably the large Achilles tendon at the back of the calf. You should not run unless necessary with tendonitis. This could make the inflammation worse and delay your recovery. Stretch well but gently, use heat and NSAIDs and give you body time to heal.

If you have tendonitis in a lower extremity, you should put off running until the inflammation subsides and the tendon has time to heal. To run with tendonitis aggravates the condition and can result in long-term damage.

Never under any circumstances would it be recommended that anyone with tendonitis go for that morning run. Doing so could cause the inflammation of the tendons and the surroundings nerves to worsen. The cliche "no pain, no gain" does not work with this condition. However if you do run you should ice the affected area and take some anti-inflammatory pills.

Tendonitis patients have tendons that can easily snap and/or break, so try not to run to a point where you put to much stress on your tendons. If you feel pain in your legs or wrists, stop running and rest first, then have the pain checked out by a medical professional.
