Don't do it. There is no recommended process. Even the most expensive thinset you can buy does not have luan as a approved substrate for setting tile on. Exterior grade plywood is a better substrate and possess' the strength needed for a tile installation.

Be absolutely sure the luan is properly secured to the subfloor. The best way to secure it is with a pneumatic stapler with 3/4 or 1" staples. Staples should be placed 2" apart across all of the luan, any less than that and you risk compromising your tile job. Be thorough and you shouldn't have any problems.

It is recommended to not put ceramic tile of Luan. Typically to put ceramic tile down you want the substrate to be a least 3/8" thick and Luan is usually only a 1/4". what I recommend is using 3/8" plywood and the put 1/5" Schluter Ditra on top of that.
