Nursing can suppress menstruation in many woman, although not all. This does not mean you cannot get pregnant, it still can happen. Many women do not get their periods back until quite some time after weaning.

Menstruation does not cause too many problems with nursing. Many nursing mothers may notice a very slight decrease in their milk production. Some babies are fussier when mom is menstruating because of this.

Generally you will not experience any menstrual cycles while you are nursing heavily. The longer you choose to nurse, the longer you tend to go without any periods. They usually reappear when you slow the nursing, as in weening, or stop all together.
