What should I know about garter snakes?

They are wild, common snakes, not poisonous or harmful, can and will try to bite you if you try to pick them up, but they don't do much damage. They eat frogs mice, whatever they can get their hands on. Not dangerous, so don't worry.

Most importantly, garter snakes are harmless. They generally feed on toads, small fish and earthworms. They can be recognized by a lenthwise stripe or band. Females give birth to litters, up to 50 at a time.They are commonly found in the northest United States and are usually black or brown in color with three yellow stripes.

You should know is that they have a lethal poison that can instantly kill you, so you will have to put on a pair of boots to avoid garter snakes.
