220 volt supply means alternating current that is AC supply, 110 volt is direct current supply , technically power of this two system of electric supply is almost equal.

In the U. S. , the blade & position arrangements are specifically designed NOT to be compatible. Devices designed for 110 can almost Never tolerate 220. Those for designed for 220 won't run on 110, but can also be damaged by it as well. Modern (yr 2000+) power supplies are changing this, but they have adaptors for various outlet types.

The only thing that is compatible between 120 and 240v outlet is the ampacity rating of the wiring. Most 120v and 240v receptacles/outlets have a differant nema or configuration. The only receptacle that is 120/240 compatible is a 20amp single outlet with a "T" on yhe nuetral side.

110 is your normal house outlet voltage. 220 is twice the amount of voltage with two hot legs of power. Usually for ac units and welders.
