Let the toenail fall off naturally as a new nail is growing underneath. You must cut nails straight across and stop the corner of the nail digging in.

Continue to let it grow out on its own. If it starts to bother you, cut the nail slightly. Once it falls out another nail usually grows in.

Consult your doctor immediately. An ingrown toenail that is not properly cared for can become infected, and some infections can lead to your nail falling off.
