Make sure your cat does not have any fleas. Fleas cause irritation that can cause hot spots. A hot spot is a continuously licked and irritated spot that is red, raw, and can scab. If fleas are not the problem, a vet check is in order to make sure your cat does not have skin allergies of some kind.

It sounds like a skin irritation. Fleas are the most common cause of skin inflammation, so use an anti-flea product. If that doesn't help, it could be a food allergy or an allergy to something else, like cigarette smoke. A psychological issue, like boredom or stress, could be the culprit.

if your cat is licking until it gets scabs the first thing to do is wash the cat no matter how much they don't like it. you can also get a shade collar so they cant lick it or try some different products such as bitter apple that you can apply to the area so the cat will not lick.
