The first thing that I would try doing is replacing the battery. If that doesn't fix the problem, you might want to check the appropriate fuse in the car's fuse panel. Said panel will be either under the hood or somewhere around the driver side foot well. Check your owner's manual. If all else fails, take it to your dealer.

First, try replacing the battery. Then, try standing closer to the car when you use the remote control. See if there are any new sources of radio interference nearby, such as a new cell phone or microwave, and turn them off. If you still can't pinpoint the problem, call your auto dealer and schedule a repair by a skilled mechanic.

The remote fobs on your keychain can be opened using a coin or a small knife. Inside you will find a battery that can be replaced. Try that first.

I would first replace the batteries. You can go to the dealership of the brand of car you own and the service department can test to make sure the remote is sending out a signal. You might also try reprogramming it.

You can try changing the battery in your remote to see if this helps. If the remote is still not working you should purchase a new one.

Dry thoroughly, check batteries, their contacts, clean if needed. Intermittent operation: worn buttons? If you can get it apart without breaking it, the rubber button's contacts can be cleaned.

The obvious culprit is a dead battery--carefully pry open the keyfob and take it out. Radio Shack (for example) can check it for you, and probably stocks a replacement. If it isn't the battery, your only solution is probably to take the vehicle or keyfob to the dealer.
