what to do

Question by  peter46 (7)

What should I do if I found a kitten?

I don't want to bring it to the pound, but I'd like to find its owner.

If it has a collar, go with the information on the tags. If no tags, you can take out a personal ad in the local paper. "Kitten found-Brief description, phone number." In fact, check the paper for "lost kitten" ads. You could also adopt the kitten if you can't find it's owner. Cats make great pets.

Contact your local animal shelter for advice and see if they can help you without you bringing the kitten in. You could also post signs in your neighborhood, or post on Craigslist.

Go to the police and ask if anyone has lost a cat recently. Most times they go unreported so ask around the place near to where you found the cat. In the meantime, get some cheap food, toys and bowl for it.

Look for a tag, or take them to a vet to find out if they have an RFID identification chip listing their owner.
