To avoid further injury limit your cat's running and jumping; this is best accomplished by keeping the cat in a small cage or kennel for a few days.

Attempt to keep the cat from further injuring the area by limiting their jumping, running around, and other movements. You might get a cast from the vet. Try to prevent the cat from jumping up or down from high places, you may need to keep them in a kennel temporarily.

To minimize any further injury you want to keep your cat confined to a small area. Also, you can give your cat anti-inflammatory medication to help with the pain.

If your cat has a soft tissue injury you should definately take it to the vet and get it checked out. Also, getting your cat some medicine for pain will help it feel better.

Mild damage can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin. Moderate injury may require splinting and additional anti-inflammatory medication. The most serious forms of soft tissue injury will require surgery.

If it is just a soft tissue injury. The treatment would be to give anti-inflammatory medicine or aspirin. Should see improvement in a week. The medicine will start to make him feel better. So he won't re-injure himself, he needs to be confined in a small area until it heals.

You should try to keep the cat quiet until it's healed, so don't allow him to run around and jump as much as possible. Also ask your vet about pain medication to manage pain, and if the injury is somewhere you can put a cast or brace to minimize the possibility of reinjury.
