If you have not already done so, clean the affected area with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Apply an ice pack to manage the pain. Once you have done that, call your family physician and ask him or her what you should do. Take care!

The nail is turning black due to blood pooling under your nail. If there is pain you should go see a doctor. They have ways of releasing the pressure caused by the blood. They will likely pierce the nail releasing blood causing the pressure and pain to decrease.

You really need to have a physician evaluate your injury. There are specialists called hand surgeons that work with just this sort of problem. You may have fractured your finger and need to have it xrayed. It may need to be surgically repaired.

If your condition is getting worse, you should go the the nearest emergency room as quickly as possible. If not, your failure to seek prompt medical attention could result in you losing your finger.
