What should I do about a back spasm during running?

I run 5 - 7 miles at a time.

Back spasms could be the result of a few things. Look into your fluid levels, first and foremost. If those are adequate, then there are probably alignment issues.

Make sure to supplement your diet with food that has a lot of magnesium and food with calcium. You can take some vitamins with these two nutrients too. These nutrients are essential in your muscles. Eating a banana before and after your run can help too. Stretch well before your run.

If you encounter a back spasm while running, I would certainly recommend stopping, until the spasm stops. If it doesn't, then I would end running for the day until it heals.

Rest. A back spasm could mean that you are overextending yourself. It's your body's way of telling you to rest. You can also get a back massage after.
