You definitely want to consider your lifestyle, where you live, do you have kids, how much of a yard you have, and how much time you will be able to devote to training your new dog. Some dogs are easier to handle when they are puppies and others require a lot of attention.

If you have small children don't get a small dog. They are often unintentionally nippy when children pull on their ears and tails. Depending on how much outside room you have should depend on the size of the dog you get. Large dogs need room to run. If you get a long hair dog you have to groom it.

Consider your work life style, family life style and where you live. Larger dogs generally tend to need more exercise than smaller breeds so you need to consider if you have the lifestyle and time to walk a dog and of course finances can you afford food and veterinary fees.

Look at your lifestyle and the breeds characteristics. Is the breed known to bark, dig, or run? Does the breed have a coat for warm weather or cool weather?

When deciding on a dog breed, consider the temperament of the dog and the specific needs of the breed. Match the dog to your lifestyle and expectations.
