How about stars? (Reach for the stars type of theme.) For a guy maybe a picture of a car driving off. For a girl use pictures of some of her dream ambitions such as a nurse cap, a teacher's desk, a building for an architect, a podium if she wants to go into politics. You get the idea.

You can take a small sheet of off white paper about the size of a gum wrapper and roll it up like a diploma, and flatten it a little between some books. Then tie a tiny black ribbon around it, and glue next to a tiny paper graduation cap.
