What makes a composer famous?

How do you know what's good and what's not?

A composer usually becomes famous if the work is somehow memorable or catchy. This is what really hooks a person to want to listen to the music more than once and therefore leads to their eventual fame and popularity. You know what's good based on your own preferences, but the music must appeal to a mass amount of people.
