It will mostly consist of gentle stretching and strength building exercises, concentrating on the hamstring and piriformis muscle in the legs and on core strength. None of these exercises are particularly strenuous and should never be painful.

Your Physical Therapist will develop a program of stretches and exercises based on your particular injury and your body. You should follow the program they develop as you can easily cause further injury by doing too much or something different than PT recommends. Ice therapy is also helpful

Depending on the reason for the pinched sciatic nerve, you'll be prescribed gentle yoga-like postures. If a disc is out of place, they could include tabletop (hands and knees) or bridge (lying on floor). You'll be reminded to go just to where pain starts, never beyond it.

I would recommend cold packs first for at least twenty-four hours along with rest. Try to stay inactive. Then try taking several long hot showers each day to losen it back up.
