I use Castrol synthetic, the use of motor oil is to lubricate between moving metal parts. Synthetic is more expensive but works better and is made better to be the best lubricant

I would use a high-synthetic oil for use in my, or any, Model A Ford. This would ensure conservation of the moving parts within the vehicle, as well as apprpriate lubrication of these parts. It's a matter of new, inventive technology preserving relics from our past.

Depending on the weather you are going to want to use a full synthetic oil on your Model A Ford.

The model A ford uses SAE 30 ND (non detergent). It is pretty much standard on old cars because they dont have oil filters per se just screens. If you choose to use a detergent oil, expect issues do to the fact that all the crud in the motor will probably clog the screen.

The oil needed depends on what motor you have. If you have the original engine, the best oil is 30 weight. Older motors don't have modern features like hydraulic lifters.

The recomended oil is SAE 40. Straight 40 weight oil. Straight 40 weight oil (SAE 40)Rated no higher than SJ (SC is lower, SM is higher)detergent Oil to get rid of sludge because it most likley has high mileage. you may also run a high mileage oil. its a little more money but worth it.

Use 15w 50 motor oil in your model A. Do not use any addatives these will only harm the engine.

I just started, today, using Valvoline VR-1 Racing Oil, 20W-50, in the 1931 Model A Ford. I am using this oil becausue of the high level of ZDDP for flat tappets. I am wondering if I should have waited to get the same oil in straight 40 weight.  add a comment

I think the VR-1 is a good idea ,but would probably use a 10W-30 0r 10W-40,because the oil system on the model A uses a gravity flow system. in which oil flows into the main and cam bearings and is circulated by the oil pump.  add a comment

In my Model A Ford, which has clean and overhauled engine, I use one of those detergent oils. All modern high quality engine oils are detergent oils. For example Mobil 1 is a good choice.
