The cobwebby moss that proliferates on the trees in Florida is called Spanish Moss. Historically, people have used it for many things, including packing material, wall insulation, fiber for weaving, batting for pillows and mattresses, and kindling. In modern times, this moss is dried and used in crafts (woven into wreaths) or as a nutrient-rich mulch bed for flower gardens.
