A 1993 GMC Sonoma, equipped with 2 Wheel drive, a 5 Speed Manual Transmission and the 4.3 Liter Vortec V6 would get a City Mileage of 15 MPG. The same configuration would achieve a Highway mileage of 22 MPG, for an overall combined Mileage of 17 MPG. Expect 3-4 MPG better on the 4cyl equipped models.

A 2WD Sonoma with the 4 cylinder and 5-speed manual made a combined 22 mpg. The Sonoma was also available with a 4.3L V6, 3 speed automatic and 4WD, which would make significantly worse fuel economy. Another factor is the body. A single cab short box is lighter and thus more efficient than an extended cab long box.
