Puss Caterpillars have been found in crape myrtles. This caterpillar is referred to as an asp caterpillar or tree asp, but is actually the larvae of the flannel moth. The caterpillar has a soft furry coat which hides venom laden stinging spines. While rarely fatal, the sting is extremely painful.
