How do you treat powdery mildew on a crape myrtle?

Answer by  BrendaG (6111)

This is caused by aphids, and eliminating them causes mildew to go away. Mix natural insecticide with water and spray plant thoroughly, making sure you get underneath the leaves well.

I saw this on a TV show once. The recommended procedure to remove mildew from plant leaves is to wipe the leaves one by one with a soft cloth doused with isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

Although powdery mildew, which is a fungus, won't kill your tree, it is quite unsightly. Caught early enough, the affected twigs and branches can often be removed by pruning. Larger infestations should be treated with appropriate fungicides a reputable nursery that will provide you specific directions for the product chosen.
