A ford explorer takes a 12 volt auto battery. They make many different types depending on your budget. I would suggest getting on that comes with a warranty from a big name store or truck shop. Also the more you spend the more the better the batter similar to smaller battery's.

That will depend on what model and year it is. Without knowing more I can't give exact prices but they don't cost more than 100-150 dollars.
