Depending on the problem, you will want to call an optometrist (eye doctor) or an ophthalmologist (medical doctor who specializes in eye health). An optometrist can diagnose and sometimes treat glaucoma, cataracts and some retinal disease, as well as correct vision abnormalities. An opthalmologist can treat corneal, neuro-opthalamic, and vitreoretinal diseases among other ailments.

Optometrist and ophthalmologist are the two kinds of eye doctors. For general vision issues (near/far-sightedness, et al.) and to diagnose other eye health problems, an optometrist is called for. For larger problems, like treating cataracts and such, an ophthalmologist is called for.

There are two main types of "eye doctor" the first is an optometrist who examines eyes and prescribes lenses and drops. An ophthalmologist is an eye surgeon, who will perform surgery on the eye. An optician has to do with glasses. Any would be suitable.

An opthamologist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats eye diseases. I, myself go to a retina specialist who is technically an opthamologist, so you can start by calling an opthamologist and they can direct you to the specific service for the type of care you need. Your family doctor might help you select one.
